A police sub-inspector died and another officer was injured after their patrol motorcycle was struck by a taxi during a pursuit in Villavicencio, Colombia, on February 1.

The collision occurred around 8:30 a.m. in the Santa Elena area at the intersection of Carrera 17B and Calle 37A. The taxi, reportedly traveling at high speed, failed to notice the police motorcycle ahead and crashed into it.

The motorcycle was carrying sub-inspector Jesús Sneider Villalobos Calderón as the passenger and patrolman Andrés Felipe León Ardila as the driver. The impact threw both officers onto the roadway. Villalobos Calderón was hurled into an electric pole and suffered multiple fractures and a severe head injury. He was transported to several medical facilities but later died from his injuries.

León Ardila sustained a leg fracture and remains under medical observation. His injuries are not considered life-threatening. A civilian bystander suffered minor injuries, and another parked taxi was damaged in the incident.

Local authorities confirmed that an investigation has been opened to determine the taxi driver’s responsibility. Police officials and residents have expressed condolences to the victim’s family and colleagues.
