The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has released body-worn camera footage and details from an officer-involved shooting that occurred on January 5, 2026, at an apartment complex in the Bartram Park area of Jacksonville, Florida.
According to the sheriff’s office, officers responded to reports of a domestic dispute at a residence on Egrets Nest Drive. When officers arrived, they encountered 34-year-old **Daniel Rodriguez** and were informed that he had been involved in an argument with his wife and that he was armed. Officers asked Rodriguez if he was carrying a weapon. He then pulled a .40-caliber handgun from his waistband.
A physical struggle ensued as the officers attempted to disarm Rodriguez. During the confrontation, Rodriguez fired one shot from his weapon. In response, the officers discharged their service weapons and struck Rodriguez. Emergency medical aid was rendered at the scene, and he was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
An autopsy revealed that Rodriguez sustained a contact gunshot wound under his jaw, with the fatal bullet entering his brain. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office stated that investigators recovered another firearm on Rodriguez at the hospital.
The State Attorney’s Office will independently review the shooting to determine whether the officers’ actions were justified, after which the sheriff’s office will conduct its own review to ensure compliance with departmental policy.
