On October 22, 2025, in Findlay, Ohio, police officers responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at a home on Cherry Lane. When officers arrived, they encountered a 90-year-old man, identified as Robert Norton, who allegedly pointed a firearm at them.

Body camera footage released by the department shows Norton holding what appeared to be a handgun at the front door, later determined to be a BB gun designed to look like a real firearm.

Two of the four responding officers opened fire, striking Norton. He was treated at the scene and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities described the incident as a possible “suicide by cop,” noting that Norton’s wife had recently passed away and that his actions may have been intentional. A multi-agency investigation into the shooting remains ongoing, and officials urged residents to seek help if facing mental health challenges.
