Columbia, Maryland — Authorities have released body-worn camera footage from a fatal officer-involved shooting that left a 25-year-old man dead earlier this month.

The footage, made public by the Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office, shows the events leading up to the shooting on March 1.

According to police, officers responded just after midnight to an apartment building on Freetown Road following reports of a man threatening to harm himself.

Officers later encountered the man, identified as Alexander LaMorie, outside the building. Authorities said he was holding a knife and ignored repeated commands to drop the weapon.

Police stated that as LaMorie continued approaching officers, they opened fire. Despite attempts to provide life-saving aid, he was pronounced dead at the scene. A knife was recovered nearby, officials said.

The released footage has drawn strong reactions from the victim’s family, who described it as deeply distressing and called for accountability.

The incident remains under investigation by state authorities.
