On April 17, 2025, a mass shooting occurred at Florida State University (FSU) in Tallahassee, Florida, resulting in two fatalities and six injuries. The suspect, identified as 20-year-old FSU student Phoenix Ikner, was apprehended by police after being shot during the incident. ​
Ikner, the son of a Leon County Sheriff's deputy, allegedly used his mother's former service weapon in the attack. The shooting began near the university's student union around 11:50 a.m., prompting a campus-wide alert and lockdown. Authorities have not disclosed a motive for the shooting. The two individuals killed were not students at FSU. ​
The Tallahassee Police Department is leading the investigation, with assistance from the FBI and the Justice Department. FSU canceled classes and campus events through April 19 in response to the tragedy. ​
