Police release bodycam footage of officer-involved shooting in El Centro - California

El Centro Police Department has released body-worn and patrol-camera footage related to an officer-involved shooting that occurred on October 5 at approximately 6:30 p.m. in El Centro, California.

The incident began after police received a report of a stolen vehicle. Officers later located the vehicle in a parking lot behind a business near the intersection of East Main Street and South Dogwood Road and attempted to make contact with the occupants.

During the encounter, a shooting took place. The driver of the vehicle, identified as a minor from Brawley, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Imperial Valley District Attorney’s Office has taken over the investigation into the incident. The release of the video footage was made in accordance with state requirements regarding transparency in officer-involved shootings.
