A deputy from the Miami‑Dade Sheriff's Office (MDSO) was fatally shot while responding to a traffic incident in the Kendall District. The 27-year-old officer arrived at the scene of a crash and became involved in a confrontation with a suspect. During that encounter, the deputy was shot and later died.

The suspect was subsequently located and found to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A second individual is being questioned in connection with the incident.

MDSO officials honoured the deputy for his service, stating he displayed professionalism, dedication and unwavering commitment to protect the community. The agency expressed deep condolences to the officer’s family, underlining the tragic nature of a life given in the line of duty.

An investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the officer’s death.
