Aurora, Colorado — May 12, 2025 — Around 3 p.m., the Aurora Police Department received a 911 call reporting a suspicious person trespassing at an offsite airport parking lot in the 19900 block of East 56th Avenue. The caller said a male was checking vehicle door handles and refusing to leave the property.
An Aurora police officer responded to the scene around 5:15 p.m. Upon arrival, staff reported that the individual was still on the premises and had become increasingly aggressive toward employees.
The officer located the suspect, later identified as **32-year-old Rashad Terrelle Johnson**, and attempted to make contact. Within about a minute, Johnson reportedly charged the officer, leading to a physical altercation.
Aurora911 received additional emergency calls from witnesses reporting that an officer needed assistance. The officer attempted to subdue Johnson using less-lethal methods, which were unsuccessful. Despite repeated commands, Johnson did not comply, resulting in an officer-involved shooting.
Additional officers arrived and provided first aid until medical responders took over. Johnson was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died. The officer sustained minor injuries during the altercation and was also treated at a local hospital.
