17-year-old William Gardner was killed in the shooting.
During the press conference, Nadeau said an officer observed Gardner grabbing his waist band doing a “security check,” which can be indicative of a person checking a firearm is secured.
At least one officer exited his vehicle and started walking towards Gardner, who turned and quickly started walking away, Nadeau said.
Another two detectives pulled up close to Gardner in his vehicle and he began to run, according to Nadeau.
The one detective chased on foot, while the other two chased Gardner in their vehicle, Nadeau said.
The detectives started to catch up to Gardner, with one detective exiting the vehicle and chasing on foot as well.
Gardner pointed his firearm towards the officers who then discharged their weapons.
