On Monday, December 2, a new traffic accident occurred on the Central Highway. A large rock broke loose from a hill and fell on a pickup truck, at kilometer 98.500, in the Cacray area, San Mateo de Huanchor district, Huarochirí province. The impact caused the death of two people and left the driver seriously injured.
According to preliminary information, the crashed vehicle, a Toyota Hilux with license plate BZG 721, was registered as property of the company Jungle Fresh Organic SAC. The rock crushed the cabin of the vehicle, which ended up overturning in the middle of the road. The driver, rescued by police personnel from the Chicla Highway Department, was rushed to the Matucana Hospital.
Authorities have launched investigations to clarify the events and determine the identities of the victims. Among the belongings found in the unit were documents that could belong to the deceased or the injured, as well as a foreign identity document in Chinese in the name of Zheng Jin Tao and a Peruvian driver’s license in the name of Hsin Hui Chiu.
However, the direct connection between these documents and the victims has not yet been confirmed. The accident occurred in a context of heavy rain and electrical discharges in the area, which has increased the danger of further rock falls from the hills.
