A ride-hailing driver has been charged in connection with the death of his passenger following a violent altercation in Asunción.

According to prosecutors, the 37-year-old driver was involved in a dispute with his 44-year-old passenger during a trip in the Trinidad neighborhood on the night of May 1.

Investigators say the argument escalated after the passenger questioned the fare. The driver allegedly struck the victim multiple times in the face, causing him to fall onto a cobblestone surface and suffer a severe head injury.

Forensic reports confirmed that the victim died from a traumatic brain injury after hitting his head on the ground.

Authorities also stated that the driver left the scene without providing assistance. Surveillance footage reportedly captured the incident and is being used as evidence.

The suspect has been charged with intentional homicide and failure to render aid as the investigation continues.
