A funeral procession in Cajamarca, Peru, was disrupted when a wooden bridge collapsed as mourners attempted to cross it while carrying a coffin.

According to reports, a group of men were transporting the coffin across a narrow, deteriorated log bridge when the structure gave way under their combined weight. The collapse caused both the pallbearers and the coffin to fall into the stream below.

The force of the water caused the coffin to open during the fall. Mourners quickly entered the stream and were able to recover it before it was carried away by the current.

Despite the sudden collapse and hazardous conditions, no serious injuries were reported among those involved.

Local sources indicated that the bridge had shown signs of structural weakness prior to the incident. Heavy rainfall in the region had also contributed to rising water levels and unstable conditions.

Authorities had previously issued weather warnings for the area due to an increased risk of flooding and landslides, which may have contributed to the incident.

An investigation is expected to assess the safety of local infrastructure and determine whether further precautions are required to prevent similar occurrences.
