Sitamarhi: A spectacle shop owner and land broker, Md Waseem Anwar Khan, also known as Puttu Khan (50), was shot dead near his shop at Mehsaul Chowk in Sitamarhi on Saturday night.

According to police, three unidentified assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on Khan. He sustained two bullet injuries, including one to the head. He was rushed to a nearby nursing home, where doctors declared him brought dead.

A police team led by Sitamarhi SP Amit Ranjan reached the scene shortly after the incident. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team recovered an empty cartridge from the crime scene. Police sources suspect the murder may be linked to an ongoing land dispute related to Khan’s property dealings.

In protest, the Mehsaul Chowk market remained completely closed on Sunday.

SP Amit Ranjan stated, "The investigation is underway, and the culprits will be arrested soon. One person has been detained in connection with the case."
