On October 14, a 93-year-old woman was bitten by a cobra and admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). Her condition has since improved: she has been removed from mechanical ventilation and shows no signs of infection at the wound site.

According to relatives, the elderly woman—identified as “Yai Thong”—was sleeping on a bed under her house when a cobra, about the thickness of an arm and roughly one *wa* (approximately 2 meters) in length, slithered onto the bed and struck her finger. Crying out in pain, she was immediately rushed to the Phetchabun provincial hospital, where she was placed in the ICU in critical condition.

Medical staff report that the bite wound was swollen and bruised. They made an incision to release trapped blood, in hopes of reducing pressure and preventing infection.

At present, she is breathing on her own, no longer reliant on mechanical breathing support. If no infection develops over the next two to three days, doctors expect she may be discharged and allowed to recover at home.
