On March 30, 2025, two Carroll County deputies were shot by a wanted suspect, 29-year-old Edmond Johnson, during an incident at a truck stop in Lambsburg, Virginia.

Authorities located Johnson inside a Swift tractor-trailer, where he opened fire on deputies as he exited the vehicle. The deputies returned fire, and Johnson was killed during the exchange.

Both deputies were transported to a nearby hospital and were reported to be in stable condition. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
