An 18-year-old young man identified as Michael (or Misael) Rodríguez, known locally as “Mica,” died following a traffic accident in La Romana. The collision happened at the intersection of Dr. Teófilo Ferri and Teniente Amado García streets when the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a white Isuzu truck belonging to the Preventive Police, which was reportedly on patrol.

Rodríguez, a resident of San Pedro de Macorís, was first taken to the Arístides Fiallo Cabral Hospital (the Social Security hospital in La Romana) where he received initial medical treatment. Because of the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to the Regional Hospital of San Pedro de Macorís. Despite efforts by medical staff, he died at the hospital.

Local residents noted how quickly his condition worsened after the crash. Some family members claimed he might have been hit by gunfire during the incident, but authorities have not confirmed that claim. Investigators are analyzing security camera footage from the intersection to clarify the sequence of events and assign responsibility.
