A tragic incident occurred in a parking area beside the container yard in Cijin District, Kaohsiung, when a 56-year-old male truck driver, employed by an engineering firm, fatally injured himself in a workplace accident.

According to eyewitness video recordings, the driver stopped his heavily loaded truck to tend to a task, but accidentally forgot to engage the handbrake. While bent over retrieving something behind the truck, the vehicle began to roll backward. With insufficient time to react, he was tragically caught between the truck’s cargo bed and the fence behind it.

Emergency crews responded promptly, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities reviewed surveillance footage and confirmed the absence of the handbrake caused the lethal accident. The Kaohsiung Port Security Bureau and the labor safety authorities have both been notified, and investigations into workplace safety responsibilities are underway.
