A man was injured after being struck by a car driven by a 15-year-old while standing on a curb in East New York, Brooklyn. The crash occurred just before 10 a.m. at the corner of Pennsylvania and Hegeman Avenues. Video shows a black Honda Accord going the wrong way, then becoming airborne and slamming into a utility pole so suddenly that the victim had no chance to move. The pole absorbed much of the impact.

The teen driver fled on foot after the crash, just as police units that had been searching for him arrived. The car caught fire shortly after. The victim, a 71-year-old man, was taken to hospital in stable condition. The driver was later found, questioned as a person of interest, and faces multiple charges including grand larceny, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of stolen property, and obstructing governmental administration.
