A woman was fatally shot in Center City Philadelphia, and a man has been arrested in connection with her killing. The incident occurred shortly after 5:45 p.m. on a Friday evening in the 1200 block of Chestnut Street. Police arrived and found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where she later died.

The alleged shooter, identified as John Kelly, was taken into custody near the scene and also brought to the hospital for treatment. Authorities say he is charged with murder, possession of an instrument of crime, and other related offenses. Another person was detained in relation to the case for allegedly grabbing the gun used in the shooting.

Witnesses described what happened: the victim reportedly approached Kelly, brandished a gun, and then Kelly disarmed her. A struggle ensued, during which he shot her in the back and hand, then tried to run. Four police officers spotted Kelly near 13th and Chestnut Streets, tackled him, and arrested him.

The case remains under investigation.
