Manaus – In the early hours of Monday, September 1, a violent incident involving a sergeant of the Military Police of Amazonas left two women injured in the Cidade Nova neighborhood, North Zone of Manaus.

The suspect, identified as Sergeant Ednei, reportedly shot his ex-wife, Fernanda, 36, during an altercation on Rua Itiquira. Another woman, whose identity has not yet been released, was struck in the arm when the officer opened fire on people who were on the upper floor of a house, pleading with him not to kill his ex-wife.

According to investigators, the attack took place during a party that had been ongoing since Sunday afternoon. Authorities believe the motive was jealousy, as Ednei’s ex-wife was allegedly in a new romantic relationship.

Video footage shows the sergeant pursuing Fernanda outside the residence. She attempted to take cover behind a car but was chased and shot in the back. Afterward, the officer fired several rounds toward the balcony and began climbing a ladder in an apparent attempt to enter the house and confront others inside.

The suspect fled when a police vehicle arrived at the scene. A chase ensued, with shots exchanged, but Ednei managed to escape.

Both injured women were taken to Dr. Platão Araújo Hospital and Emergency Center. As of now, no further details have been provided regarding their conditions.

The case is being investigated by the Specialized Police Station for Crimes Against Women (DECCM) and the Specialized Police Station for Homicide and Kidnapping (DEHS). Authorities have requested the preventive arrest of the accused officer.
