Eight murders have been registered in the first six days of 2023 in Esmeraldas. The latest victim is a traffic officer who was shot four times.

The event occurred in the sector known as Stop 12, on the way up to the El Panecillo neighborhood . This information was issued by Santiago Viteri, chief of the Esmeraldas Police.

The victim was identified as Maykel García, approximately 25 years old. A car was used by at least four men to flee after the crime .

The death of traffic agent Maykel García was immediate after receiving four shots. His body was left lying in the middle of the street.

People who were in the place tried to help him, but it was in vain since García had died.
