A shooting on Saturday morning (26) claimed the lives of two people in Baraúna, a municipality in the western region of Rio Grande do Norte. The attack occurred in broad daylight in front of a bakery and resulted in the deaths of Franklin Raniere da Silva, 41, and Sonaria Maia Dias Cavalcante, 40.

Franklin was shot multiple times and died at the scene. Sonaria, who was working at the bakery during the attack, was initially taken to Baraúna Hospital and later transferred to Tarcísio Maia Regional Hospital (HRTM) in Mossoró, where she succumbed to her injuries hours later.

Security cameras in the area captured the moment the shooting began, showing normal activity in the bakery before chaos erupted.

Military Police responded quickly, cordoning off the area until the arrival of Civil Police and the Technical-Scientific Institute of Forensics (ITEP), who carried out on-site procedures. The case is now under investigation by the Baraúna Civil Police Station.

No arrests have been made so far, and the motive and identity of the shooter remain unknown.

The incident has reignited public concern over the rising violence in Baraúna. Residents are calling on state authorities to take stronger action to address insecurity in the region. The execution-style killing of Franklin and the fatal shooting of Sonaria while she was at work underscore the vulnerability of civilians in the face of escalating violence in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte.
