Two men died after a confrontation between two motorcyclists escalated into a shooting and a subsequent vehicle collision near 7th Avenue and Interstate 17 in Phoenix on Friday night.
Police received reports of a motorcycle crash just before 11 p.m. While officers were on their way, they learned the crash was connected to a fight between two motorcycle riders that ended in gunfire.
According to investigators, one of the riders pulled out a gun during the altercation and fired. Immediately after the shooting, the suspected gunman was struck by a passing vehicle.
The man who was shot, identified as 36-year-old Scott Kikes, and the suspected shooter, 53-year-old Job Martinez, were both taken to the hospital, where they later died from their injuries.
Detectives say the driver who struck Martinez witnessed the shooting moments before the collision. He was questioned by police and later released pending the results of the investigation.
Authorities are still working to determine what caused the confrontation between the two riders and what led to the shooting.
