The wave of violence and crime continues to rise in the Piura region. In the latest incident, a motorcycle taxi driver was shot and killed in what authorities suspect was an extortion-related attack. The victim, identified as 45-year-old Miguel Alexander Yanayaco Prado, was targeted in the Ricardo Jaúregui human settlement, located in the Veintiséis de Octubre district of Piura.
The attack occurred around 11:50 p.m. at the intersection of Yugoslavia Street and Francia Avenue. According to the investigation, the victim was inside his motorcycle taxi when he was approached by an armed man who fired multiple shots at him at close range.
Moments later, the assailant returned on a motorcycle with an accomplice and fired additional rounds before fleeing the scene. Authorities are pursuing leads and believe the shooting is connected to ongoing extortion activities in the area.
