One person was killed and six others were hospitalized after a multi-vehicle crash in downtown Riverside Wednesday night.
Riverside police responded to reports of the crash on Market Street between 5th Street and Mission Inn Avenue at 6:15 p.m.
Investigators said the suspect driver had crashed into several occupied vehicles before allegedly trying to flee the scene.
When emergency crews arrived, one person was found dead at the scene and six others were transported to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
The driver, whose name was not released, was later detained, police said. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The victim who died was not identified.
No further details were released and roads in the area were closed as police worked to clear the scene.
