Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará – On the morning of Tuesday, September 30, 2025, a tragic accident claimed the life of a 69-year-old woman on Rua São Paulo, in the downtown area of Juazeiro do Norte, Cariri region.

The victim, identified as Maria Neusa da Silva Faustino, was riding pillion on a motorcycle driven by her husband when the vehicle collided with a pile of gravel occupying part of the road. Security cameras recorded the moment of impact, which caused both riders to be thrown from the motorcycle. Maria Neusa sustained severe injuries and died at the scene, while her husband was injured and received medical attention from a Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) team.

Family members reported that the couple was on their way to Pirajá Market to purchase fruits and vegetables at the time of the accident. The gravel had been dumped in front of a store undergoing renovation, partially blocking the street.

According to the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB), placing construction materials on public roads without authorization is a serious violation, subject to fines and immediate removal of the obstruction. Police have opened an investigation to identify those responsible for the unlawful dumping.
