A tow truck driver was killed in a serious road accident involving a garbage truck on the Central section of St. Petersburg’s Western High-Speed Diameter (ZSD) on 15 July.

According to information provided to Fontanka by “Autopark No. 1 Spetstrans,” the company that owns the garbage truck, the vehicle was forced to stop in the second lane at approximately 1:00 p.m. due to a technical issue. The driver reportedly notified the ZSD technical service about the situation.

Several minutes later, a tow truck collided with the stationary garbage truck. The tow truck driver died as a result of the collision, according to the company responsible for operating the tow vehicle.

The exact circumstances surrounding the accident are currently under investigation. Representatives of “Autopark No. 1 Spetstrans” stated that the company is cooperating fully with authorities as part of the investigation.

Police from St. Petersburg and the surrounding Leningrad Region have begun an official review of the fatal crash.

Earlier reports stated that warnings about the stopped vehicle had been displayed on electronic road signs and information boards. According to available information, the collision occurred approximately five minutes after the garbage truck had come to a stop.
