A Public Works Department (PWD) worker was killed and another person injured after the dome of a centuries-old Kali temple collapsed during a demolition operation in Chandauli district, Uttar Pradesh, India.

The temple was being demolished as part of an ongoing road-widening project when the structure's large dome suddenly gave way. Witnesses said the falling dome struck a bulldozer before rolling onto the road, where it hit workers and bystanders nearby.

The deceased worker, identified as 58-year-old Baldev Yadav, sustained critical injuries and later died in hospital. A second person was also injured and received medical treatment.

Officials said the demolition formed part of a highway expansion project involving the removal of old structures along the route. District authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, including whether appropriate safety measures were in place before the demolition began.
