A 12-year-old boy was critically injured after coming into contact with a high-voltage power line while attempting to retrieve a kite from an overhead electrical wire in Khurja, Bulandshahr district, Uttar Pradesh, India.

According to authorities, the boy climbed onto a rooftop and accidentally touched the live high-tension line, suffering severe electrical burns. His 65-year-old grandfather rushed to rescue him but was also electrocuted after coming into contact with the live wire.

The grandfather died at the scene, while the boy was transported to Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi with critical injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries a day after his grandfather's death.

Police said the incident was accidental. Electricity officials have urged the public to avoid attempting to retrieve kites or other objects caught in overhead power lines and to immediately notify the power department instead. The tragedy has renewed concerns about the dangers posed by high-voltage electrical infrastructure during kite-flying season.
