Four people were electrocuted to death during preparations for a 10-day church festival in Tamil Nadu's Kanyakumari district, police said on Saturday.
The incident happened when the four people identified as Vijayan, Mano, Jestes and Shivam with others, were busy decorating a chariot for the ninth day celebrations at Enayam Puthenthurai St Antony's Church.
Officials said that they were rolling a large metal ladder when it suddenly came into contact with a high-tension wire. As the road was also wet, the four were electrocuted to death within seconds.
The entire incident was caught on camera by a bystander. Visuals showed the ladder coming in contact with the high-tension wire, leading to sparks on the ground and the four men tumbling one after the other.
Huge chaos ensued as panic spread within the locals and other participants who haphazardly started running everywhere, while some came forward to help the ones who received the electric shock. Their efforts went in vain as the four could not eventually be saved.
After the tragic incident, the four bodies were taken to Kulitharai Government Hospital and Asaripallam Government Hospital for autopsy.
Meanwhile, Pudukadai Police registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter.
