An app-based taxi driver was shot and killed in San José Pinula, Guatemala, in an attack that was captured on security cameras and is now under investigation by authorities.

According to preliminary reports, the victim had arrived in the area to provide a transportation service when an armed assailant approached and opened fire. Surveillance footage reportedly shows the suspect carrying out the attack before fleeing the scene.

Emergency responders were called to the location, but the driver died from his injuries. Investigators from the Public Ministry and the National Civil Police processed the crime scene and began collecting evidence.

Authorities are reviewing security camera footage and interviewing witnesses in an effort to identify the suspect and determine the motive behind the killing. No arrests had been announced at the time of reporting.
