Work on the stage for a concert by Shakira in Rio de Janeiro was temporarily suspended following the death of a worker during the assembly of the structure.

According to authorities, the incident occurred on Copacabana Beach, where the stage was being prepared for a large public performance. The victim, a 28-year-old metalworker identified as Gabriel de Jesus Firmino, was carrying out welding work when he became trapped between two service elevators.

Initial findings indicate that one of the platforms was positioned above while another was activated to descend, resulting in the worker being crushed between the equipment. He was rescued and transported to a hospital but later died from his injuries.

Following the incident, a forensic inspection was conducted at the site, leading to a temporary suspension of construction activities. Authorities are investigating whether there were failures in workplace safety procedures and if any negligence contributed to the accident.

Organizers stated that the pause in construction did not affect the overall schedule of the event. After inspections were completed, work was authorized to resume.
