A serious railway accident occurred in Đắk Lắk Province, Vietnam, after a train collided with a farm vehicle attempting to cross the tracks, resulting in one fatality and two injuries.
The incident took place at approximately 2:46 p.m. on April 12 along the North–South railway line. A passenger train identified as SE9 was traveling when it struck a small agricultural vehicle that was crossing at an unauthorized rural passage.
According to authorities, the driver of the farm vehicle was transporting two children at the time of the accident. Despite the train operator applying emergency brakes upon noticing the vehicle, the collision could not be avoided due to the short distance.
The impact caused the vehicle to be violently thrown off the tracks and severely damaged. One child was killed at the scene, while the other occupants sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.
Preliminary findings indicate that the accident was caused by the driver’s failure to observe safety precautions, as the vehicle attempted to cross the railway at an unregulated crossing despite the approaching train.
Authorities have reiterated warnings about the dangers of using unofficial railway crossings, noting that such locations often lack barriers, warning systems, and adequate visibility, significantly increasing the risk of fatal accidents.
