A video circulating online shows the moment a semi-open regime inmate was shot and killed as he arrived at a prison in Dourados, Brazil, on the evening of March 16, 2026.

The victim was identified as Marcos Freire, 50, also known as “Maricota.” He was returning to the semi-open correctional facility, where inmates are required to spend nights while being allowed to work during the day.

According to authorities, the footage captures a suspect dressed in dark clothing waiting in the prison’s parking area. As Freire approached the entrance on a motorcycle, the attacker moved toward him and opened fire, striking him multiple times.

Freire died at the scene before emergency services could provide assistance.

Police reports indicate the suspect fled immediately after the shooting, likely assisted by an accomplice. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and gathering evidence to identify those responsible.

Authorities also confirmed that Freire had a criminal history, including prior convictions and involvement in prison unrest.

The case has been registered as a qualified homicide involving the use of a restricted firearm and is currently under investigation by the Civil Police.
