MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A security guard is charged with murder after an argument with another security guard at Main Event in Cordova turned into a deadly shooting, according to Memphis police.
Richard Lewis, 44, is charged with first-degree murder. He is currently in the Shelby County Jail. During a hearing July 24, he was ordered to be held without bond for now.
Memphis Police said they responded to the shooting scene at Main Event, a family entertainment center, on 7219 Appling Farms Pkwy. on Monday, July 22, 2024, around 7:15 p.m. According to the police affidavit, investigators found a security guard, identified as James Redmon, on the ground inside, shot in the head. He died at the scene.
The affidavit said the manager called police after hearing two "bangs" and finding Redmon on the ground bleeding. The manager told police he asked the other guard, Lewis, what happened, and Lewis replied, "He came at me, and I had to do it."
According to the affidavit, another Main Event employee told investigators Lewis was upset Redmon was there and told the other worker that if Redmon "walks up on me, I'm gonna blow his a** off."
The worker told police that Redmon and Lewis argued about the metal detector at the entrance, then about 10 minutes later, he said Lewis told Redmon not to walk up on him. That's when the worker said he saw Lewis shoot Redmon twice in the head.
The affidavit said Redmon had a gun in his holster when he was shot.
