A soldier of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force (TTDF) was shot and killed near the HDC Towers in Edinburgh 500, Chaguanas, on Saturday, March 14, 2026.

The victim was identified as Jealani Garcia Williams, regimental number 13270, of Balmoral Park, Chaguanas.

According to reports, the shooting occurred around 10:00 p.m. Responding officers arrived at the scene and found Williams suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

During their investigation, officers recovered three spent shell casings at the location. Two of the casings reportedly bore TTR (Regiment) markings, while one was marked TTAG (Air Guard).

Police also discovered a firearm tucked into the waistband of Williams’ pants.

Authorities have launched an investigation as they continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
