A man was killed after colliding with a rope that had been stretched across a street in the city of Quilmes, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Avenida 12 de Octubre and Calle 390, where residents had reportedly placed the obstacle without authorization due to a lack of traffic controls in the area.

The victim, identified as Federico Martínez, was riding a motorcycle with his 11-year-old son when they suddenly encountered the rope blocking the roadway. The rope struck Martínez directly in the neck, causing a catastrophic injury that resulted in his near-instant death.

His son, who was also on the motorcycle, managed to duck beneath the rope and fell onto the asphalt. He suffered injuries in the fall but was reported to be out of danger.

Following the incident, the Functional Instruction Unit No. 9 of the Quilmes Judicial Department launched an investigation and ordered forensic analyses, including the review of security camera footage to reconstruct the sequence of events.

During the preliminary investigation, two men were identified as responsible for placing the rope across the road. Prosecutors ordered the seizure of the motorcycle involved and initiated legal proceedings against the suspects on charges of manslaughter for obstructing traffic without authorization and failing to comply with safety regulations.

A neighborhood carnival parade that had been scheduled to take place in the area was cancelled following the tragedy, which left residents and event organizers in shock.
