Worker Dies After Falling from Height, Second Fatal Workplace Accident in Less Than 24 Hours

Alberto José Talavera Martínez, a 33-year-old construction worker, has died after spending three days in intensive care at a hospital in Managua.

Talavera Martínez suffered severe head and bodily injuries after falling from a height of more than 10 meters while working on the roof of a warehouse in the Walter Ferretti neighborhood, District V of Managua. Security camera footage recorded at 10:43 a.m. on Monday, February 16, shows part of the roof collapsing and the worker falling to the ground along with debris.

Following the incident, coworkers immediately called emergency services, and he was transported to a hospital. Despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries.

With his death, the number of workers who have died in Managua in less than 24 hours due to workplace accidents linked to a lack of adequate protective equipment has risen to two.

Authorities and labor safety advocates continue to emphasize the importance of proper safety measures and protective equipment in the workplace.
