A military police officer died in a traffic accident on Sunday morning, February 22, 2026, in the East Zone of São Paulo, Brazil. The collision occurred on Avenida São Miguel at approximately 7:08 a.m., near the intersection with Rua Itamarati de Minas. A driver reportedly lost control of a car, entered the wrong lane, and collided head-on with the officer’s motorcycle as he was returning home from duty.

The officer, who served with the 8th Battalion of the Military Police, was taken to the Municipal Hospital of Ermelino Matarazzo, where he later died from his injuries. The scene was secured for forensic examination, and the case was registered at the 24th Police District.

Authorities reported that the driver involved, identified as a foreign tourist, tested positive for alcohol consumption. Police stated that the motorist was scheduled to depart Brazil on a flight to Portugal later that same day.

The Military Police issued a statement expressing condolences and confirmed that assistance is being provided to the officer’s family while the investigation continues.
