A 90-year-old man lost his life in a tragic accident in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, when a dump truck loaded with gravel overturned on him while he was seated outside his home enjoying the winter sun. The incident occurred on Friday and was captured on nearby CCTV footage.

The victim, identified as Girraj Sharma, resided with his grandson Satish Sharma. According to local residents, the truck had arrived in the area to deliver materials for construction work at a neighbouring property. As the vehicle advanced, one of its tyres became lodged in a pothole, causing it to lose balance and tip over.

Sharma attempted to move away as the truck began to tilt, but was unable to escape before the gravel from the load fell on him, resulting in fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

After the accident, the truck driver fled. Residents alerted the authorities, and police from the Bahodapur station recovered Sharma’s body from beneath the vehicle. The truck was subsequently seized as part of the ongoing investigation.

Additional Superintendent of Police Jayraj Kuber attributed the accident in part to unstable ground conditions in the area. Authorities noted that recent work on a water pipeline had left the soil soft and uneven, contributing to the vehicle’s loss of balance.

Sharma’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and police are continuing investigations to trace the driver and establish accountability. The incident has heightened concerns about road safety and the risks posed by heavy vehicles operating in residential zones.
