A man has been charged after police say he stabbed and killed another man in a west Las Vegas neighborhood on Thursday afternoon.

Authorities reported that the suspect, later identified as a 46-year-old man, had been acting erratically and was seen chasing people down the street with a knife prior to the fatal attack. The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of H Street near Owens Avenue, where multiple 911 calls were made reporting a man with a knife.

Police believe the altercation began when the suspect went to his mother’s house, knocked on the front door aggressively, and then swung the knife at her when she answered. He subsequently chased his brother down the street. During this pursuit, the suspect encountered another man who was walking in the area and chased him before stabbing him multiple times.

The victim, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at a local medical center. The suspect was disarmed by his brother as officers arrived and was taken into custody. He was later treated at a hospital for minor injuries to his hands.

The suspect is being held on charges including open murder and multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon. Police described the incident as isolated, stressing there is no ongoing threat to the public, and noted that the suspect’s behavior may have been influenced by mental health or other issues. Investigators are continuing their work on the case.
