A roadways driver was killed after being struck by a brick during a violent clash between two groups near Mundera Chungi on GT Road in Prayagraj’s Dhoomanganj area on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 1 p.m., just days after Diwali celebrations.

The victim, identified as 30-year-old Ravendra Kumar, also known as Munnu, was a contractual driver with the Uttar Pradesh Roadways. CCTV footage circulating on social media shows two assailants approaching a group of men near a white car. Ravendra attempted to defend himself, but one attacker hit him with a brick, causing him to fall. A second blow to the head proved fatal.

Following the attack, enraged colleagues and local residents placed the victim’s body on the Prayagraj-Kanpur National Highway, blocking traffic for several hours. Protesters also vandalised a vehicle at the scene. Senior police officials and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) personnel were deployed to restore order.

The highway remained partially blocked into the evening, causing major traffic disruptions. Authorities have diverted vehicles while the investigation continues. The victim’s family has demanded immediate arrests and strict action against those responsible.
