A man identified as Rogério Amaral da Silva was beaten to death in broad daylight on Saturday afternoon (5) in the Beira Rio neighborhood near São Marcos Hospital in Nova Venécia, Espírito Santo. The suspect was apprehended shortly after the incident, police sources confirmed.

A video circulating on social media shows the suspect attacking the victim with a club. The footage contains graphic content.

According to the Military Police, the suspect claimed that he was at the hospital when he had an argument with the victim, who allegedly threatened him. The suspect stated that he left the hospital but was followed by the victim to a supermarket parking lot entrance. He said the victim then struck him with a wooden stick, after which he disarmed and struck the victim repeatedly in the head, stopping only when he believed the victim was dead.

The Scientific Police reported that the victim’s body was sent to the Regional Section of Legal Medicine (SML) in Colatina for autopsy before being released to the family.

The Civil Police confirmed the suspect was arrested in flagrante delicto. They also revealed there was an outstanding arrest warrant for the suspect issued by the Court of Teixeira de Freitas, Bahia, related to a previous homicide case.
