A suspected member of the 27s gang was shot and killed in Kuils River on Wednesday evening while reportedly on his way to a memorial service.

According to sources, 30-year-old Lorenzo Petersen from Eerste River was driving to the service when he was ambushed at the corner of Van Riebeeck Road and Annandale Street.

A video circulating on social media shows an unidentified gunman chasing Petersen’s Mini Cooper, firing several shots into the driver’s side window and windshield. The suspect then fled in a getaway car that had been following a few vehicles behind.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that officers responded to the scene at about 7:50 p.m. and found Petersen inside his vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. He was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

According to reports, the victim was approached by an unknown suspect who opened fire while Petersen was stopped at a traffic intersection. The suspect fled, and no arrests have been made. Police believe the motive to be gang-related and are investigating a case of murder.

Ward councillor Wouter de Vos, who visited the scene, said the incident appeared to be a deliberate and targeted attack. He urged anyone with information to contact the authorities to help bring those responsible to justice.
