BAKERSFIELD, CA — On May 9, Kern County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call around 6:30 a.m. on the 600 block of Water Street involving a man armed with a hammer, machete, and firearm.
A woman reported she had been shot by the suspect.
Upon arrival, deputies found 42-year-old Sadi Geovani Diaz, who allegedly brandished a firearm, leading to an officer-involved shooting.
The female victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of her injuries. Diaz was also taken to the hospital and later arrested.
He faces multiple charges including attempted murder, kidnapping, burglary, assault on a peace officer, and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm.
During the confrontation, a deputy was shot in the hand after Diaz fired while on the ground.
An incident review board has since determined that the deputies’ use of force was consistent with agency policies.
