MANSEHRA: A tourist from Quetta drowned in the Kunhar River in Kaghan Valley on Wednesday while attempting to take a selfie.
According to SHO Raja Sajid of Kaghan Police Station, 23-year-old Muhammad Ramazan lost his balance while standing on large rocks near the riverbank and fell into the fast-flowing water. "The tourist lost his footing and was swept away by the current," Sajid told reporters.
Efforts to recover Ramazan’s body have been hindered by dangerously high water levels, caused by melting snow in the upper valley. "The increased water flow is severely hampering rescue operations," the SHO added. Despite the challenging conditions, police and experienced local divers continue the search.
In a separate incident in the Malkandi area of Kaghan Valley, Abdullah Khan, a first-year college student, drowned while swimming. According to local residents, the student slipped into deep water and was swept away by strong waves.
Manzoor Khan, a resident of Tutain Jarad currently living in Mansehra, said his family had returned to their native village to celebrate Eidul Azha.
