The man was killed on the second attempt, as the gun did not work on the first attempt.

Luis Acuña Herrera, known as "Sancocho," was murdered in Floridablanca, Santander, in an attack perpetrated by hitmen on the night of Thursday, April 3. The victim, a well-known gambling promoter and owner of the Punto Dorado liquor store, was intercepted in the La Cumbre neighborhood while waiting for his wife in front of one of his businesses.

The attack occurred around 9:30 p.m., when two men on a motorcycle attempted to shoot him, as evidenced by security cameras. Initially, the assailant's gun jammed, forcing one of the gunmen to retreat. Minutes later, another motorcyclist appeared and managed to shoot him six times, hitting him in the left arm, chest, and right abdomen.

Acuña was unable to react quickly after the first assassination attempt, and as he was getting off his motorcycle from the sidewalk to the street, the second hitman appeared and left him wounded in front of his wife. She, along with some neighbors, helped him, and he was later taken by police to the Foscal Clinic, where he died despite medical efforts.

The victim's relatives said he had recently mentioned problems with some partners in the gambling business, but they did not estimate that his life was in danger.

Authorities are investigating whether the murder could be related to his business activities, as Acuña earned more than 15 million pesos a month, which could have put him on the radar of criminal gangs dedicated to extortion.
