The Municipal Health Department will open a complaint to find out what happened. Patient entered the unit well and then became unconscious.

A patient died waiting for care at the UPA of Cidade de Deus, in the West Zone of Rio, on Friday night (13). The Municipal Health Department confirmed the case and stated that it will open a complaint to find out what happened.

Through social networks, the municipality's Secretary of Health, Daniel Soranz, said that he will fire all the employees who were on duty on Friday night at the unit.

"All professionals who were on duty at the UPA of Cidade de Deus, last night, will be fired, will respond to the complaint and will be denounced in their respective class councils. It is unacceptable not to realize the seriousness of the case," he said.

Witnesses said that the man, identified as José Augusto Mota Silva, 32, arrived complaining of severe pain in the unit. Images show him sitting, with his head tilted to the left.

A person from the UPA approaches him, who doesn't react. Then, José is put on the stretcher by an employee.

In a statement, the SMS stated that everything happened "very quickly", that the patient was lucid, and walked into the unit. However, when he was attended, the man was unconscious.

"According to initial reports from the professionals, everything happened very quickly, the patient was lucid and walked into the unit, accompanied by a person who reported not being able to stay on site," says an excerpt from the note.

"System data show that the risk classification was made at 8:30 pm and, a few minutes later, the medical team was activated because the patient was unconscious. He was taken to the Red Room for care, but unfortunately he did not resist and cardiorespiratory arrest was found. The body was sent to the Forensic Medical Institute to determine the cause of death."
