A sergeant from the Military Police of Piauí (PMPI) was shot and a criminal was killed in the early hours of this Monday (9) in an attempted robbery in the Alto da Ressurreição neighborhood, Southeast Zone of Teresina . The PM undergoes surgery at the Teresina Emergency Hospital (HUT). For the Civil Police, the police officer acted in self-defense.
Security camera footage shows the police officer opening the trunk of a car in front of a bakery and being approached by two criminals on a motorcycle. One of them gets off the bike and approaches the police officer, engaging in a physical fight with him.
At the same time, four other criminals arrive in a car and three of them get out. The sergeant breaks away from the criminal who approached him and tries to protect himself from the other assailant’s shots by hiding in front of the vehicle. The police officer pulls out his gun and starts shooting at the bandits, who flee.
During the escape, one of the robbers gets on the motorcycle and starts it, but is hit by one of the police officer’s shots and falls a little further ahead, on the sidewalk of another establishment. He dies at the scene.
Witnesses report that the sergeant was rescued and taken to an Emergency Care Unit (UPA). He was then transferred to the HUT, where he is undergoing surgery. His health condition is not yet known.
The motorcycle and car used by the robbers were seized and taken to the DHPP headquarters. The first vehicle is registered in the name of a man who has already been arrested by the department and is currently at large.
The car, which has a badly damaged front end, was previously stolen by criminals. The owner of the vehicle was identified by the police, who are in contact with him. The DHPP is also trying to identify the criminals who fled the scene.
