A homicide involving a land dispute shocked the municipality of Amapá, located 310 km from Macapá, on Saturday (23). The crime, which was recorded on video, resulted in the death of Antônio Candeia Oliveira, 80 years old, known as "Maranhão". Businessman Francisco Canindé, husband of elected mayor Kelly Lobato (Union), was arrested in flagrante after presenting himself at the police station.

The crime occurred around 4 p.m. on a farm. In the video (it will not be posted here), Antônio Candeia appears arguing with someone inside a pickup truck, which, according to Portal SN, would be Francisco Canindé. Initially, the discussion is accompanied at a distance by António Carlos Lima de Araújo, 59, a former Army soldier, who is dressed in black, and Canindé's brother-in-law.

The images show Araújo (always with one hand behind him) watching the elderly man who was arguing heatedly with Canindé (inside the pickup truck) about a land negotiation. After a brief fight and offenses from both sides, Araújo pushes Candeia. The two leave the frame, but the sounds of the shots are recorded.

The cell phone shoots the two again. Wounded, the old man tries to catch something inside a plastic bag, and the two enter into a body fight. Araújo appears grabbing the hand of the old man, who is holding a revolver. Seriously injured, the victim cannot shoot any shots.

In the midst of the confusion, the young man who records the scenes screams in despair:

"Don't do that! We didn't come to kill anyone!". Soon after, he leaves the place, apparently crying.

Antônio Candeia falls unconscious and dies on the spot.

The delegate responsible for the case, Stephano Dagher, believes that the crime may have been premeditated. According to him, the group would have provoked the victim to justify a violent reaction and claim self-defense.

He [the old man] really had a gun in his hand the moment he fell. But, for me, this is the real reason why they came filming: to imply that it was self-defense. Everything was provoked and planned to look like a reaction. I understood that, from the beginning, the executor forced the situation so that the victim took out the weapon,"

Francisco Canindé presented himself at the Amapá police station accompanied by his lawyer. He was arrested in the act, accused of being the instigator of the murder, and must undergo a custody hearing this Sunday (24). He was fined for aggravated homicide for a futile reason. The SN Portal has not yet been able to contact the defense.
